The Mediterranean on show was born from the idea of blending into a single image, the glimpse of many over a heritage belonging to everyone. White, black, red, primary yellow and cyan blue are elements which come from mother nature and her bare soil, which, also by means of manipulation by man, give life to an image, a colour, an emotion, an unrepeatable moment, a landscape which challenges human mastery. All this becomes a peculiarity which is typical of the Mediterranean and it is captured by the author’s sensitive touch, in an instant in which the eye and the soul come together. Countries, places, cities, traditions, a sunset, a glimpse, a flower, a child, light, shadows…everything becomes the protagonist of everything, and an actor, without a script, whose direction is carried out by the author himself. From here, space is given to the creativity in capturing and enclosing within an eternal moment the green of the Mediterranean patch in a clear March dawn; the crystal blue of the Greek waters, which guard the sandy and pebbly beaches along the coast as if they were relics; the sanguine red of the hot Spanish soil, that makes the chords of passion vibrate with its flamenco; the beige of the Maltese salt mines as a mirage to the traveller’s eyes; yellow, synonym of plenty and respect for tradition in a dish full of Tunisian couscous. White, the predominant colour of the Mediterranean, or white and black, as extremes without shades, eternal doubts of the human being, who has always been attracted, in its choices, by the their respective and unequalled fascination. Therefore a single image, inspired by emotion, talent, conscience, the technical professionalism or by a memory that becomes the property of many and that allows the spectator to both understand it and identify himself with it. The author is asked to create a photograph that is both the expression and the interpretation of a culture, a territory, of a memory that neither time nor man can ever modify. It comes out as sovereign, caressed by a sweet breeze, bathed by the clear waters of its sea, cured for and accompanied by meticulous human labour.
